 Probe Testing

The Probe Doctor makes the Probe Nurse evaluate each transducer before work begins to ensure your transducer can be repaired cost-effectively.

Following the transducer evaluation, she will fax you a computer generated transducer report that quantifies the problem along with a complete repair estimate.

If your probe can not be repaired, several options will be offered to meet your individual needs. The Probe Doctor offers ultrasound transducer repair for most of the popular electronic array transducers. Professional transducer repair is a truly cost-effective way to extend the useful life of your ultrasound system

Probe Testing Includes:
  • Acoustic Evaluation

  • Clinical Performance Testing

  • Physical Assessment

  • Safety Evaluation

  • Certification of Performance

  • Replacement Planning

  • Predictive Maintenance

Predictive Transducer Testing

My systems are under contract/warranty, why would I have my probes checked?

The OEM, ISO, or multi-vendor service personnel do not have the diagnostic tools to recognize a subtle problem with a probe. Unknowing, a sonographer will struggle to optimize the image quality using a probe with a few dead or weak elements. The result is lengthier patient scans, lower quality images, multiple re-scans, wasted film, wasted physician time, sonographer frustration, and “no problem found” service calls.  Independent probe testing can uncover subtle problems before they become big problems, even before the user sees them. Now you can have marginal probes replaced under your service contract.  If you are limited to “one probe per year”, probe testing will find the probes that can be repaired for a fraction of the cost, saving your replacement for when it is really needed.

How will probe testing reduce my cost?

Preventative medicine is recognized as a right way to reduce the cost of healthcare. Likewise, preventative probe testing can be used to discover minor problems before they turn into expensive failures. Image quality is degraded by common problems, most of which can be repaired for a fraction of the cost of a new probe.  Early detection and repair of a potentially serious problem is far more cost-effective than allowing a mission critical probe to suffer a catastrophic failure requiring a high-cost replacement.

How do I know if a bad probe is repairable or not?

A trained technician using FirstCall can give you a printed report that pinpoints the source of problems that can be repaired.  Serial reports can be used to track changes in probe performance over time. Now you have an early warning system that can prevent a costly surprise.

Where do I go to get a probe repaired or replaced?

Sonora Medical Systems Inc. is the only independent ISO 9000 facility that specializes in restoring probes to OEM performance levels. Sonora also has a comprehensive line of new replacement probes with a full 1-year warranty, same clinical performance, ˝ the price. We also provide refurbished OEM probes that can save you up to 50% of the cost of a new OEM probe. Insist on having a full diagnostic report for any probe that you purchase.

The Probe Doctor offers ultrasound transducer evaluation for most of the popular electronic array transducers using our exclusive automated ultrasound transducer test station. This unique test device allows us to perform a complete acoustic and electrical evaluation for most ATL, Acuson, HP, and Toshiba transducers. Our mission is to offer hospital organizations a means to institute a "predictive maintenance" program for ultrasound transducers. Before you take your ultrasound system off of a service contract, have the Probe Doctor test the probes. We can tell you if dropping that contract is really a good idea.
The program goal is to virtually eliminate the undo stress and expense associated with "mission-critical" ultrasound probes suddenly going down by providing a cost-effective way to evaluate high-use probes before they become a problem. We offer a set of "in-kind" loaner probes while the client's probes are being tested.
The price for the evaluation is $175 per probe plus shipping and includes a complete written report of the probe's physical, electrical, and acoustic performance characteristics with recommendations for minor repairs (i.e. a damaged bend relief, delaminating lens, cracked plastic, etc) before they become emergent. The report contains an element by element evaluation that will expose damaged or dying crystals within an array, broken cables, and other forms of hidden damage.
